  • My love for Ross Kananga stems from the fact his crocodile stunt is my earliest memory of any James Bond film and as such holds a special place in my heart. Plus, it was so awesome and the takes it took (that can be seen in the 'Making of' dvd in LALD) makes it harder. Simply impressive and iconic :)

Yup, I'm right with you on Ross Kananga, @Signed_By_RogeMoore. He was ninth on my list - just, just behind Wayne Michaels, whose bungee jump for GE was equally as dangerous and outrageous as his crocodile jump was (apparently Michaels just managed to point the piton gun at the bottom of the dam before passing out owing to how enormous an effort it was) and the stunt is maybe - for the masses, at least - even more iconic a Bond film moment; like you, not for me, mind. ;) And, must admit, when I found out he'd worked on several other 007 films, that tipped the balance for Michaels getting my eighth place. :)

Found this round a real toughie all said, though - the work by the most prolific Bond stuntmen has been a huge collective contribution to the series, no question...

  • Like to think Martin Grace would get a top three placing simply for what happened to him during the filming of Octopussy...absolute amazing professional. The stunts are one of the key factors that set the Bond series apart from other films.

Anyone Irish on here does as well, no doubt - the Emerald Isle could certainly do with the points... ;)

Let me preface my votes by saying each of these men deserve 10 points IMHO. If not for the stuntmen, the Bond series simply would not exist.

1st place (Gold)image Bob Simmons (Doubling Bond/ Stunt Arranger etc: DN, GF, TB, YOLT, DAF, LALD, TSWLM, FYEO, AVTAK)
    = 10 points
2nd place (Silver) image Martin Grace (Doubling Bond/ Stunt Arranger etc: YOLT, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, FYEO, OP, AVTAK)
    = 8 points
3rd place (Bronze) image Rick Sylvester (Parachute jump: TSWLM/ Cliff finale: FYEO)
    = 7 points
4th place image Willy Bogner (Ski Director: OHMSS, TSWLM, FYEO, AVTAK)
    = 5 points
5th place image B J Worth (Aerial Stuntman: MR, OP, AVTAK, TLD, LTK, GE, TND)
    = 4 points
6th place image George Leech (Stuntman: DN, GF, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, DAF, TSWLM, FYEO, OP, AVTAK)
    = 3 points
7th place image Richard Graydon (Stuntman: FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, TSWLM, MR, FYEO, OP, AVTAK)
    = 2 points
8th place image Vic Armstrong (Doubling Bond/ Stunt Arranger etc: YOLT, OHMSS, LALD, TND, TWINE, DAD)
    = 1 point
  • Eva got #1! Well deserved to that sultry beauty. And with Izabella at #2, how can it get better? I'd love to vote for the stuntman category, but to be honest I don't know many of the men on there.

    * Awarded sixth place by securing more higher points-scoring finishes in individual voting

Few stuntmen enjoyed a career in (and out of) Bondage like Bob Simmons - who was also 'Sean Connery' in the gunbarrel sequence for most of the latter's flicks, of course - and rightly practically all of us said to ourselves 'right, Bob's your uncle' and gave him the gold. Second place and the silver goes to that revolutionary ski sequence deviser, the really rather wonderful Willy Bogner, and the bronze to, yes, the recently sadly departed (and truly hard-as-nails) Martin Grace.

For a change in this tournament - ;) - the rest of the places are predominantly filled by Americans (aerial stunt supremo B J Worth in fourth and cliff-face diver Rick Sylvester in fifth) and Englishmen (long-time campaigner Richard Graydon in seventh and Brosnan-era stunt director Vic Armstrong in eighth), but daredevil driver Rémy Julienne does fly the flag for the French in sixth place.

So, yes, it's yet another gold for England then, which means they've now won seven - yes, seven - medals of that (highest possible) denomination. Beginning to hog it a little now, aren't they? Factor in the fact they also picked up a seventh and an eighth place this time out and the old Anglo Saxons pocketed a not unhealthy 13 points from this contest. Not to be left out in the cold, however, the tourney's long-time second-placed nation, the United States, also did well this week - a fourth and a fifth place rounding up another nine points for the Yanks' cause.

Elsewhere, mind, it was a particularly good contest for Germany. Yup, those Teutonic titans finally found the tonic to show they're truly among the titans of this tourney in the shape of one Willy Bogner - his silver medal gifting them a valuable eight points that ensures his country's moved up one to sixth on the Medal Table, switching places with Canada as it does so. By contrast, the perennial points-scorers that are the French are a non-mover on the board this week, despite picking up three points, yet that wee trio of points means they're now just three behind the third-placed Italians.

But it's pretty easy - or at least it should be - to spot the biggest recipients of good fortune this week. Yes, at last the Irish have actually got lucky, as Martin Grace's bronze medal (and the seven points it equates to) sees the land of The Brozzer's birth rocket up a full nine places on the board to an unquestionably respectable eleventh. Now that's what you call a craic!

And Event 17 coming up soon, chaps...
