The 2012 007 Olympics ~ Final Medal Table

    So then, peeps, here it is - my first tournament of the new MI6. Oh yes.

    And, fittingly, it's a biggie and hopefully a goodie. Yes, given that (on these shores, at least) this year is all about the Olympics - or so the media keeps on telling us - why not I, we and this forum jump on the bandwagon? Well, before the release of the next film, at least? ;)

    Yup, the aim of this tournament, in an Olympics-style format, is through different events (or, if you prefer, categories) to discover a rundown of the greatest contributors to the cinematic James Bond - awarding, as we do so, a gold, silver and bronze medal (of course) to the top three in each event.

    The tournament will, therefore, be made up of 26 separate events. And they are:

    • Bond Actors (18/01/2012)

      G image United States (Albert R Broccoli, Richard Maibaum, Maurice Binder and Robert Davi)
      S image England (John Barry, Ted Moore, Christopher Lee and Aston Martin DB5)
      B image Wales (Shirley Bassey, Desmond Llewelyn, Timothy Dalton and Roald Dahl)

    The majority of the events/ categories will comprise eight or more competitors (very few events will comprise less) and, for each event, participants should vote for their top eight competitors, ordering them in the following fashion:

    1st place (Gold) = 10 points
    2nd place (Silver) = 8 points
    3rd place (Bronze) = 7 points
    4th place = 5 points
    5th place = 4 points
    6th place = 3 points
    7th place = 2 points
    8th place = 1 point

    However, again in the manner of the Olympics, this tournament has a bigger scheme than merely seeking results on an event-by-event basis - with an international flavour. Each competitor in each event will be competing on behalf of their country of origin and all points they accrue (by finishing in the top eight of their event) will go towards the overall total accrued by their country. This will be reflected by the display of an overall results table - or 'Medal Table - following the completion and reveal of the results for each event.

    The countries participating in the tournament then, peeps, are:

    image England; image Scotland; image Wales; image Ireland; image USA;
    image Canada; image Australia; image New Zealand; image Germany; image France;
    image Italy; image Switzerland; image Austria; image Netherlands; image Sweden;
    image Norway; image Denmark; image Turkey; image Greece; image Czech Republic;
    image Slovakia; image Bosnia and Herzegovina; image Poland; image Russia; image Ukraine;
    image Azerbaijan; image Japan; image China; image Thailand; image South Korea;
    image Malaysia; image Jamaica; image Bahamas; image Cayman Islands; image Nicaragua;
    image Mexico; image Brazil; image Chile; image Haiti; image India;
    image Egypt; image Morocco; image Gibraltar; image Spain; image Portugal; image Monaco

    So, with that general overview complete, I can now declare... the 2012 007 Olympics open!

    Yes, the opening ceremony has been and passed, peeps - highlights of which included all 46 competing nations' teams parading into Blofeld's volcanic base (the organisers having been forced in these economically challenging times to turn controversially to SPECTRE for a venue), which saw Sir Rog and Dan The Craig trying to wrestle from each other the flag-bearing responsibility for a very strong England team; the Olympic torch being lit by an arrow shot across the venue from the crossbow of Melina Havelock; Conners treating everyone to his jetpack-flying skills and, best of all, Tatiana Romanova treating everyone to a streak, wearing nothing but her black neck-choker. Phew!

    Yup, after all that methinks we may all need a wee rest until the tournament itself gets underway with our first event - see you back here in a moment, chaps... ;)

    Edit:

    Right then, kicking off what should be a several months-long, revelsome and revealing tournament is our opening event, peeps. Yup, just as the real Olympics tends to - more or less - open with a bang with its 'blue ribband' event (the Men's 100 Metres Sprint, that is), we're starting with the event that should get this tourney really off and going. It's arguably the big one - it's...

    image

    The competitors:

    image Sean Connery (DN-YOLT, DAF, NSNA)
    image George Lazenby (OHMSS)
    image Roger Moore (LALD-AVTAK)
    image Timothy Dalton (TLD, LTK)
    image Pierce Brosnan (GE-DAD)
    image Daniel Craig (CR, QOS)
    image David Niven (CR '67)
    image Barry Nelson (CR '54)

    So, the task is simple... please re-arrange the eight competitors above into your favoured ordering - first to last (greatest to least) in terms of their contribution to the cinematic James Bond.

    Voting for this event should remain open for about a week, after which the results and the opening Medals Table will be posted in this thread (as well as in its opening post above).

    And to show you just how its done, I'll open the voting...

    1. image Roger Moore = 10 pts
    2. image Sean Connery = 8 points
    3. image Daniel Craig = 7 points
    4. image George Lazenby = 5 points
    5. image Pierce Brosnan = 4 points
    6. image Timothy Dalton = 3 points
    7. image David Niven = 2 points
    8. image Barry Nelson = 1 point

    Over to you, folks - get voting...! :)

    He shouldn't even be in the running. I mean come on. "Jimmy" Bond? And he was a spy for the CIA while Felix was the one working for MI6! What a travesty.

    Nor should David Niven IMO.

    I'm with you %100. Spoofs are trash in their own regard, but Niven added to the panning when he looked nothing like Bond! #-o

    Not to mention being only being about 10 years too old for the role. The fact that anyone lists Niven or Nelson ahead of the 6 official actors is nonsense. I couldn't stand Brosnan but even I'll admit he was better than those 2.
