The presentation of the blue ray case looks average. I like the look of the inside but the cover "Bond 50" lacks style and is boring. What a shame this is also on each disc! I was also hoping for individual cases even though I am yet to own any of the Bond's on DVD with the exception of CR and NSNA which isn't an official 007 flick anyway. I was going to buy these, now I'm not so sure. I'm wondering if I should wait longer for all blue ray films to be released individually.

Plus, what's up with the lack of features on CR and QOS? Not that I watch manyspecial features anyway but I do like viewing deleted scenes.

"The above 'special features' are not final and not exhuastive. Further details will be released at a later date."

I hope the deleted scenes will be added to CR and the alternate ending to the QOS special features list.

Why do they always use such boring, bland text font in the contemporary Bond films and now in the blue ray box set?
  • From the Blu-Ray's that have already been released, we know they've fixed certain UE mistakes, like the water failing to turn red in Thunderball, or Live and Let Die's overly reddish opening credits. I'll be very curious to see if some of the other issues have been solved as well, for example the missing intentional camera-shake in A View to a Kill, or the missing shot of Orlov in Octopussy.

I'm very eager to find this out too. Can the films go back to their SE glory?

The thing is, I'm a bit worried about that missing shot in Octopussy. It's easy enough to add a camera-shake, but to add those few seconds back in, they'd have to re-edit the master after retrieving the missing seconds from some other source. I'm not sure if they think that's worth the effort, as I suppose the idea was to use the HD masters as prepared by Lowry in 2006 as the basis for all future releases.

We can only hope, as I'd hate to see something, even just a few seconds, that has always been part of the film until the UE lost forever.

That's my fear too, though many of the initial errors have been fixed, missing shots is something no one would be willing to go back and alter. I doubt if even the intentional camera-shake in A View To A Kill or it's and GoldenEye's cropping have been mended.

Some of the later films even look worse in UE when compared with SE. At least Casino Royale onwards are safe.

Who is going to buy this 50th Anniversary Blue Ray set?

I don't like the art work on the disks and the covers of the two DVD books, which has put me off buying this. I wonder if I'm being too fussy though.

Same here RogueAgent. The last time I owned every single Bond film was when I recorded them off the TV using VHS tapes! Really looking forward to having the entire collection in stunning Blu Ray!

I am looking forward to the 50 anniversary blu ray of all the films. Will go on sale in September. I was surprised to see several films being released on blu ray for the first time. Among them
    OHMSS
    OP
    YOLT

You are. You are letting some box art affect your purchase of some films. You buy for the films, not what the packaging looks like.

Each to their own. I actually quite like the packaging, what I've seen of it so far. Slightly different to what we were expecting - each film in its own case. I just hope that all the extras are HD, as they seem to be on the Blu-rays released so far. And I'm really excited about seeing OHMSS, LTK and TLD in High Def. Bring it on!

    Yeah, that's true. I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

The cover art is just so lame and bland. Why couldn't they put an individual stylish design on each DVD and something with more impact and class on the cover of the two DVD books? Really!

I know they probably want to keep the case slimline but I also think it's a shame that each film doesn't have it's own individual page in the book. The montage of photos on the left hand side looks nice but it's a pity the pics from two different films are combined.

The complete box set has been detailed; not sure if it's old news or not:

It appears like the list we've seen before, but I'm not sure if it's been updated since the last posting.

I still live in the hope that we Will see more special features. We will perhaps get something new at comic-con?

That's nothing new and should be all we get for the features until the next upgrade. I think the 60th anniversary would convince EON to open their vaults a little more, after 16 years!
  • I dont know if this is the same anywhere else, but im in Duban, South Africa, and was told by 2 major DVD stores that all the James Bond Blu-Rays had been recalled. Until November 2012.
Maybe they are re-releasing them idividually as well. I certainly hope so because i hate the packaging for the box set... And the lack of extras!

I hope there's more extras announced. I've got the UEs of my 5 favourite films, and then all the special editions so if there's only the extras we've seen before and the few new featurettes on the set, the only reason to bother would be the better picture quality, which doesn't bother me that much. Bit disappointed if it's the case, was looking forward to Star Wars on Blu Ray, and James Bond on Blu Ray-thought it'd actually get me into Blu Ray, but don't appear if they will. Just hoping that the Indiana Jones Blu Ray release is better!

Well, at the time it is two new featurettes about the 50 anniversary and we are going to get the videoblogs from Skyfall. Other then that, nothing. Not even the extended material that we got for CR is on this set.
    Shame on you Eon!

Yes, which is why I'm worried why that's all we'll get...most of the material on the set are from the SEs and UEs, SEs released around 10+ years ago, UEs 6 years ago. I was delighted to buy the UEs 6 years ago, not so fond on getting the same material repackaged 6 years on for what should be a special event!

It just seems like all the old material in a new place, and I do believe my old collection (DN - CR) works well enough for me. Even the CR UE I have on blu-ray is better than what I was given in that set, and I can only surmise the version of QoS I have on blu-ray is probably the best I'll ever see, in terms of special features.
  • I've got to admit I care more about video and audio quality over bonus features. I don't want commercials talking about how everything is remastered, I want clarity.

Well, I'm bothered about it too, Canada, but just the UEs are good enough for me in terms of quality now. Not sure how much more the picture could be improved.

It is the 50th anniversary. Come on, we should get something more then the featurettes, deleted scenes etc that we have seen soo many times. Just look at the Star Wars blu-ray set that was released last year, or at the Avengers Blu Ray box. Those stuff are hilariuos. But we Bondfans get material that is from 1999 or 2006, just re-issued.

I am so dissapointed on EoN if we don't get more special featurettes!

Well prepare to be dissappointed then as the spec of the box set has been released on Amazon and lots of other sites. Theyre not suddenly going to announce a load of extra documentaries, deleted scenes etc.

What you see is what you get - discs that are 6 years old, just in Bluray.

And in CRs case theyve actually gone backwards by giving you less. The CR special edition should be the template - they shouldve given every film that treatment for the 50th then they might have convinced me to buy it. As it is I'll just get OHMSS,TLD and GE as theyre the ones I'm really missing on Bluray. Then I'll probably pick up the rest bit by bit in a year or so when they come down in price.

I think I'll save my money for the Indy box set as say what you like about Lucas but he usually dangles some nice carrots for the fans to get them to buy.

Along with Die Another Day but that happened with the UE release and now we'll never get those missing extras back.
  • Hi all, dont know if this has already been noted but the following is a contribution on Amazon.co.uk..

."with regards to the other posts this was on thedigitalbits website and they are usually accurate (please note fox distribute the discs in the us and they are direct ports.)

"And in other news, there's been a lot of talk around the Internet about the list of extras revealed yesterday by Fox and MGM for the upcoming Bond 50 box set. Specifically, it appeared (based on the press release) that many things have been left off from the previous DVD and Blu-ray Ultimate Editions of the Bond films. Upon reading the list however, I wasn't convinced that it was 100% comprehensive and included absolutely everything on the discs. So I asked the studio to clarify. Sure enough, I've just heard back from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. As expected, the list posted yesterday - and included in the official press release - was simply a "marketing highlights" summary. The complete list of extras on the Bond 50 discs is significantly longer. We've asked for additional details and specifics and we'll post them here as the studio makes them available."

so it looks like they will do a comprehensive list a bit later on

Don't get too excited, my money's on the discs being identical to previous releases.
