around the same time nightfire was made into a game, DAD became a movie. now, i think nightfire should've been a movie and the script for DAD should've been screwed up, thrown into the air, shot to pieces by timothy dalton and sean connery and had its remains burned.

I'm being serious, nightfire could've been a movie. make some changes to the plot (have the finale on drakes island rather than the space station, and take out all traces of lazers), tone down the massive amount of deaths, maybe take out the underwater car and replace it with something we haven't seen before and bam, already we have a film thats better than DAD

now im aware some of you haven't played the game so here's afew nightfire clips to show you what could've been.

Well, why did 2002 have to be the year Moonraker was remade twice? Die Another Day took all the unused ideas from Moonraker the novel, and NightFire was a complete ripoff of Moonraker the film. In 2002 we had 2 MOONRAKERS!!! WHY?!?!?!?!?!

Give it another ten or so years, and a lot of DAD love will be spread all over the place. We may contemplate its many flaws all we want, in a decade a new generation of Bond fans will step up and decide it wasn't all that bad. By then, however, NF will be more or less forgotten.

Anyway, I'm not sure I like NF more than I like DAD. Besides the fact of them being two different media, I'm most of all amazed by the level of appreciation NF gets while its story is actually one big cliché, a reinvention of the age-old campy spy nonsense of the 70s. I had fun playing it, but to praise it as if worthy of a motion picture treatment is like saying James Bond jr should be serialized by EON too.

Credit where credit is due, Dimi - if it weren't for DIE ANOTHER DAY, we never would have gotten CASINO ROYALE. If DAD had been better, EON probably would have pressed on with films of that tone, and we'd probably have ended up with the Brozzer smirking and pain-facing all the way through CR.

Yes Dimi, there was a huge growth of love for MR a few years back on the old MI6. I can't imagine why in the future DAD won't have the same 'spur of love' one day.

Just my opinion... I find DAD to be great fun, pure spectacle, mindless entertainement.I find CR to be boring, dull, and un-Bondian. Sorry, but I take the fun over the colourless and lifeless movie. CR is not fun at all, zero escapism and no epic scope, so it goes in #21st place of my ranking, just infront of QOS. DAD is #18.

videogames, parachutes and motorbikes. story of my life. and this videogame is better than DAD so yeah i think if they change it a bit then its a pretty cool solution

DAD was going good until madonnas theme played, imho it just went downhill from there. better than TND, maybe, DAD is ranked my worst bond film but i haven't watched it in a while so maybe i should give it another chance, where as i saw TND not long ago and still thought it was awful. but better than TWINE, no, i thought TWINE is very underrated, aside from denise richards i thought it was a pretty cool film, especially the PTS and theme song.

aside from space nightfire didn't use many elements from moonraker, the baddie wanted to destroy a load of nuclear bases, not destroy all life on earth and replace everyone with a master race. aside from the space finale (which in my idea would have been taken out anyway), what exactly is there thats similar to moonraker the film???

I'd like to think that even those who grew up that film will realise it's not all that good as true fans of the series would. No one will ever say "it wasn't all that bad" in my opinion.

miranda frost

brosnans bond (which i liked)

aside from that, its total sh*t

Daniel Craig, Daniel Craig & Daniel Craig,

aside from that it is total B*ll*cks.

DAD was a fine movie but it suffers the same fate that CR its finale is so overblown over the top that it leaves you wanting less CGI and more acting.

The main thing missing from the NightFire version of Moonraker is the Space Nazi thing. The main beats, a billionaire who plans on destroying something on Earth from space, remain the same. Hugo Drax and Raphael Drake share a similar sounding last name, as well as a similar goatee'd look, the main difference is that Drake isn't a bit chubby.

Video games seem to be your solution to everything. When you write up treatments of Bond stories, they're loaded with elements from popular video games. When you think a film is poor, your solution is to make a film out of a recently-released video game. And so on, and so forth ... maybe you might want to try broadening your horizons a little bit.

To each his own. I'd argue that in today's age, most video games are more trending towards good storytelling and depth rather than overall playability. Games like Mass Effect and Halo are right up with sci-fi greats like Star Wars and Star Trek, in terms of content. Uncharted, Bioshock and Assassin's Creed are also story-driven franchises. Even games like LA Noire and Heavy Rain pay out like a film rather than a story.

There's a difference between trending towards good storytelling and, as thelivingroyale has suggested, directly adapting a video game into a film.

I totally agree with you! DAD paved the way for CR and also lets face it Pierce was pushing 50 and it was time to go get a younger Bond. Maybe Ms Brocholi and her half brother Mr. Wilson never felt that Pierce was "their" man. Cubby and the public had basically chosen Pierce. Now they could get their man in the holster...

Well, according to all the DVD documentaries, Michael Wilson, at least, liked Pierce Brosnan. I don't know about Barbara Broccoli, but I assume she didn't mind.

DAD not only got us rid of Brosnan, it also brought a more edgy and believable Bond. Lots to be thankful for here.

I have no problem with DAD. Sure it's over the top, far fetched etc. etc., but I enjoy watching it every time. What really disappoints me is that Brosnan didn't get to do a 5th film. He's not my favourite Bond, but he's the one I grew up with and I can honestly say I like all his Bond films about equal.

To be fair, Brosnan gave this new Bond in the first half of DAD. Give the fellow a little credit, the man loved Bond and the heritage. That was his failing, he didn't speak up and tell babs and co that they should have done Bond his way. He was in awe of being Bond and being part of this great cinematic legacy and just toed the party line.

I don't buy the whole I love Bond thing at all. The way he treated the producers after being pushed aside was gutless and classless. He had ample chances to ask for re-writes, he had some pull and over the years could have done something about the bad writing as well. He may have liked the idea of being Bond, but what he clearly liked more is make money and bitch the franchise that made him.

But I'm a softy, so yes, DAD was by far his best performance, yet is still wasn't much.

He was probably hurting - he'd just been dumped from the role of a lifetime. A lot of people say things they don't necessarily mean when they're in that frame of mind.

Four features was enough for Brosnan, it's obvious to some extreme to both neutrals and fans alike that by the time of 2002s Die Another Day he was slightly past it as the British agent, would of been 53 by the time of Casino Royale production and while looking a whole lot better than Moore would of done at the same stage 25 years earlier or thereabouts, it's fair to say four innings as Bond was ample time for the Irishman to prove to worldwide audiences, he did what he was given, did the films, was paid an obscene amount of cash to do it, and years on, we pick and choose what were our best and worst moments of his tenure and so forth

Brosnan said his favorite Bond adventure was For Your Eyes Only, and asked to pick his worst went with Lazenby in OHMSS, I understand Brosnan even had some choice words to say about the Australian in a past interview, a few derogatory remarks etc, I don't know what their issues are

Brosnan said at some point that never when playing Bond it felt like it was real (?), (probably 'cos it isin't, it's a fictional character), he hated some one liners that were given to him, questioned himself in a suit/tie/tuxedo, didn't feel 'a full ownership' over the 007 role and is pleased not to be part of a contract anymore and doesn't feel shackled and restricted by Bond relevants, i.e. he feels liberated from the role I suppose

Anyone who has an ounce of Bond enthusiasm or knowledge within them must realize that The World Is Not Enough is Brosnan Best 007 adventure, here he seems more focused, objective targeted, there's less of the poor attempts at humor we saw in Tomorrow or Die Another Day, if they had kicked Denise Richards out the back door from day one of production it could only have improved

IMHO Trouble with DAD when compared to MR and TSWLM is that MR and SPY does not take itself so serious. MR never tries to be more than silly fluff and TSWLM was similar where DAD takes itself too seriously. From the corney CGI, to the windsurfing scene, to the invisible car (STUPID, STUPID, STUPID) to the horrid dialogue that Brosnan utters with Halle Berry. It was a dumb movie trying to pose as something that would be a classic Bondian adventure. Maybe in a few years it will attain some cult following.

Die Another Day suffered from 2 things:

1.) very, very stupid gene therapy plot with the villain, and
2.) TOO MANY GADGETS! Seriously! Bond had gadgets, Jinx had gadgets, Gustav Graves had gadgets, Zhao had gadgets, Graves' tech guy had gadgets... way too many people had way too many gadgets. My favorite gadget scene was in the Q lab, and I would have been happy if that was the only one.

Maybe so, or maybe he was just happy getting his big phat paycheck.

Many movie stars hold off, or make a lot of noise when they're unhappy with a project, especially when they're a key figure. Brosnan had been Bond for a while, he certainly could have done something about DAD had he wanted to imo.
