On this day seven years ago, Daniel Craig was officially named as the sixth actor to play James Bond in EON Productions' film series.

Back on October 14th, 2005, an official press release confirmed the news: "It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that Daniel Criag has been cast in the role of the legendary British secret agent, James Bond, in the highly anticipated 007 adventure thriller Casino Royale."

Arriving by speedboat courtesy of the Royal Navy, Craig joined director Martin Campbell and producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli at the press conference held onboard HMS President on the River Thames in London.

Speaking shortly after arriving, Craig said, "I'd like to thank the royal marines for bringing me in like that, and scaring the shit out of me."

Since signing as Bond, Craig has starred in three films ("Casino Royale", "Quantum of Solace" and "Skyfall") with two further films planned. "Bond 24" is eyeing a late 2014 release.

Craig has also lent his voice and likeness to five 007 videogames "Quantum of Solace: The Game", "Blood Stone", "GoldenEye", "GoldenEye: Reloaded" and "007 Legends".

Damn. 6 years? It feels like it was yesterday. How time flies.
  • 6 years ago? It's really been that quick. Daniel has had a stellar career during the 6 years after.

I wish I could have witnessed this announce live back then. After DAD, my interest in Bond had diminished and I didn't really get back into it until I saw CR on DVD. I wonder what my reaction would have been like to see Craig selected as Bond, but I don't think I would have cared.
  • It's weird to see how much Dan has changed in his ability since then. He has become quite the hit, and well deserving of the Bond role all those years ago. He was balsy, and proved the haters wrong. Well done Dan!

A wise decision was made that day.

But yes, it doesn't seem like it's already been six years.

Wow, I remember watching that press conference on the internet like it was yesterday. My mouth dropped when I saw '6 years'....that is truly incredible it has been that long.
  • Six years in not a long time, you know how quick the time goes

I guess depends how hold you are essentially, periods of time seems like an eternity if you're of a young age, I bet Roger is at home now thinking, '84?, only seems like yesterday I was playing Bond' etc

Then he gets blasted for being blond and wearing a "life jacket"

The life jacket criticism was typical of British gutter press stirring it up. Just like the big tough soldiers in the boat with him, he had no choice, but the red tops being what they are!
Oh of course and the DCNB brigade as well.

And shortly after that there was that brilliant site of totaly deluded but 007 fans nonetheless, CraigisnotBond. They were worth a good laugh in being so ridicolous, until the Teaparty movement in the US I have not heard such a bunch of coocoos.

Most of us "numpties" are more concerned over how EON has turned Bond into a glorified Oxfam hitman. Craig is a terrific actor, but he's been sold short.

What I mean is that the scripts, casting, music, editing etc. has let him down.

  • I remember when I first heard about him being the new Bond, I was still in High School. I thought this guy is too ugly to play Bond; but this was me being angry that Brosnan wasn't Bond anymore. Thankfully Craig made me feel better about it by making a great Bond in CR. Happy to see he's continuing to be Bond!

Not even that, @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7! Bypassing swearing but almost-swearing is nearly as ineffective to demonstrate the maturity we seek among our members. That said, this issue is being considered as we speak and depending on the level of provocation involved, we will determine how to respond to this.

You are right of course, it is corrected, but it is still very annoying.
