I'm also surprised that Kissy (or Aki) is only getting two votes. I love them both. To me Madeline is one of the weakest aspects of SP, and that's saying something.

Hey, you don't hear me talking in that way about your wife!

oh.. erm... that may have been wishfull thinking...

I find her very attractive and well played, but the dialogue isn't up to par.

Always nice to see this monthly thread pop up again.

PTS: SP - I do love the Jupiter 16 sequence and Barry's music but SP's, whilst not being amazing, is damn solid.

Title Track: YOLT - I never used to be a big fan of it when I was younger, preferring the bombast of GF. But it keeps on getting so much better with age, so many layers, one of Barry's best.

Title Credits: YOLT - Again one of the best. The volcanoes and the oriental motif blended together beautifully along with the song.

Main Villain: YOLT - Classic (if a bit laughable) Blofeld v a totally botched Blofeld.

Main Bond Girl: SP - Kissy is anonymous (despite being crucial in preventing WW3). Madeline has a staggering figure and can converse intelligent as well.

Henchman: SP - Not even worth discussing. Hans is a piss poor Poundstretcher Red Grant.

Overall Plot: YOLT - Preposterous? Yes. Logical? Probably not. But at least it's not a shambles.

Dialogue: SP - YOLT is pretty perfunctory here. 'Kill Bond. NOW!!' the only thing that really stands out.

Score: YOLT - Just f**k off with this category.

Settings: SP - I love Japan but I'd have to let the key European locations of SP and the crater shade this one.

Action: YOLT - Little Nellie and the final crater are damn good but the Hinx fight enough to sneak this despite SP's other rather average action sequences.

Humour: SP - I'm honestly struggling to think of one great one liner in YOLT.

Cinematography: YOLT - As others have said both films are strong in this category but for all your efforts in the PTS Sam the rooftop shot simply cannot be beaten.

Benign Bizarre: YOLT - Blofeld with a tank of piranhas. Job done.

Suspense: YOLT - Bond dressed as an astronaut heading to the launchpad to avert WW3. Although about 80% of the suspense in this scene is down to Barry.

Minor Characters: SP - Mr White and Lucia do enough here although Tiger is a solid ally.

Glamour: SP - A Japanese fishing village v thrashing super cars past the Vatican?

Bond Performance: SP - Sean sitting in a rocking chair with his slippers on? No thanks. Dan's weakest performance but he's still pretty damn good.

    YOLT: 9
    SP: 9

    SP scrapes a draw!!!

Signs of light at the end of the tunnel. Don't get too complacent though. The next one will be a massacre.

    Best line in YOLT:

As Q sets up Little Nellie, Tiger says, "What is this Bond-san? I have much curiosity! This can only be for children Bond-san! Take my helicopter."

Hardly immortal, but at least amusing.

I think the cinematography category shouldn't even be an option. Freddie Young did Lawrence of Arabia for Christ's sake!

Surely you're not arguing that YOLT has poor cinematography? Watch it again.

I did a quick count, so I could be wrong, but looks like only four of us voted YOLT as the winner, so SP is currently in the lead.

It's not by points? Because I noticed that when YOLT did win it was by a large margin, when SP won it tended to be closer. There were a few ties as well.

That's true, so it might balance out, or tip in YOLT's favor.

Ties are also far more common than they were previously (including on my own scorecard).

Are we using proportional representation here or first past the post?

Total points vs. total points, which I think is proportional.
  • It was a much closer battle than the previous ones, but ultimately You Only Live Twice pulls it out, by a margin of 169 to 155! Next up, SP takes on George Lazenby's lone entry as it's Spectre vs. On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

PTS: SP (probably OHMSS's weakest aspect)
Title Track: OHMSS (I mean come on)
    Title Credits: OHMSS
    Main Villain: OHMSS
Main Bond Girl: OHMSS (I mean come on)
Henchman: SP (Irma Bunt is good enough, but Hinx is a badass and I'm a Batista fan)
    Overall Plot: OHMSS
    Dialogue: OHMSS
Score: OHMSS (if the only piece of music in the whole film was "We Have All The Time In The World," it still would have won)
Settings: OHMSS (Piz Gloria couldn't have been more Bondian if it were an actual set, plus they did a tribute in SP)
Action: OHMSS (beautiful dawn raid on Piz Gloria)
Humor: SP (Lazenby can't deliver a good line to save his life)
    Cinematography: OHMSS
Benign Bizarre: OHMSS (doesn't get much more delightfully weird than the clinic)
    Suspense: OHMSS
    Minor Characters: OHMSS
    Glamour: OHMSS
Bond Performance: SP (I'm not seriously going to pick the Lazenator here)

SP scrapes a few wins in OHMSS's worse categories, but overall it's a 14-4 romper for OHMSS. Let's see your entries!

I'm exactly the same as many other here - OHMSS is my third favourite Bond film - Spectre not even in the top half and I was even torn over giving Craig the Bond Performance! I've really grown to like Lazenby's work in OHMSS. What a wonderful film OHMSS is.

To me Craig's Bond in SP is the weakest interpretation in the series. His other three I rank quite high, but he seemed so disengaged, and almost effeminate at times, in this latest one.

Interesting. I thought for the most part he was on point. Reaching for the cool of Connery and often achieving it. I thought the detached nature was more in line with him growing as an agent toward the man we saw in Dr No. If only the plot would let him get on with it! Instead of dragging his off handed coolness down into the depths of half-baked foster-brother motivations.
