Fastest & Slowest paced 007 movie

edited November 2014 in Bond Movies Posts: 23
Simple question. Which movie is the fastest paced, most action packed, edge of your seat kind of movie. Doesnt have to be good to be fast, just look at DAD. Which is the least boring, fastest, loudest, action packed bond movie. My winner without a doubt is Goldeneye. It's just so quick and fast and full of hardcore action. No wonder it made such a great game. Runners up would be Thunderball, Die Another Day, Octopussy, Casino Royale, and maybe QoS or YolT. But what do you guys think

    Quantum of Solace. :P
  • Slowest doesnt mean bad. Some of the best bonds have a slow pace. So to counter my other discussion, what do you think is the slowest bond? My winner? Either A View to a Kill, The World is not Enough or Dr. No. But what do you think?

Quantum of Solace is the shortest but also the fastest in terms of editing, action, plotdevelopement.

I have to disagree with naming "Thunderball" as a fast paced Bond film. For me, it's far from it!

I would say that Quantum of Solace is the fastest, both in terms of editing and runtime.

Do we need two separate threads for "fastest and slowest" paced Bond films? Can't the threads just be merged?

    QOS. It's too fast paced.

I think that we have to distinct "fastest paced" with "fastest editing". QoS is the fastest edited, but TSWLM the fastest paced.

Merged two threads into one as @MayDayVicenzo wisely suggested.
Fastest and slowest paced Bond films...
QOS and DAD move at a pretty quick rate.
FRWL and TB seem to take a while to crank up. Though that's not a bad thing.

My view on this: QoS for fastest paced and TB for slowest paced.

FRWL is quite a slow paced movie, but it's so well put together you don't really notice.
I agree with @ClarkDevlin about TMWTGG. The pace is slow because the film is shot sans tension and action sequences that haven't been thought through.

A fast paced film for me is one that is over before you know it, regardless of whether it's action packed or not, although again I agree with everyone about QOS.
    TLD is very pacey.

    I agree @nicnac.

Before I give my opinion, let me clarify that neither slow pace nor fast pace is a bad/good thing for me. You can have good slow or fast paced films as well as bad.

FRWL is slow paced in that it feels a good deal longer than two hours as so much is developed in its shorter running time. So much plot and character development shown in shortn quick scenes that make the film seem longer than it is while the plot slowly progresses.

CR is the fastest paced film for me. I can't believe how long the running time is. The movie flies by for me, perhaps because of how well the timing of the action sequences are. When I start the movie around 9:30, I'm stunned when its after midnight at the end of the film.

For me personally TB is the slowest

All three of Craig's films are pretty quick - both CR and SF belie their running time.

TMWTGG could be a contender for slowest film, but it picks up in the final third. So, that leaves DAF - fairly decent first half, than followed by a dreary second half.

    Fastest: Tomorrow Never Dies
Slowest: The Man with the Golden Gun or Thunderball or From Russia With Love.

In the case of the latter two, slow pacing is certainly a good thing. ;)

Am I the only person who thinks YOLT is fast-paced? Especially after TB.

Quantum of Solace is the fastest-paced, followed by Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, and surprisingly, A View To A Kill.

Slowest is Dr No, then Thunderball and The Man With The Golden Gun.

I can see how someone might feel that way, but it has always felt rather leisurely paced to me. Perhaps because of the expansive feel to the film and the fact that we settle down in Japan and remain there for the duration.

Similarly, OHMSS has always felt like one of the slowest paced films to me. I think it's a combination of settling down in one spot for a lot of the film's action and all the passing of time that occurs throughout the earlier portion of the film.

I'm surprised nobody nominated TND for fastest paced. It moves.

By the same token, TWINE is a slog as is AVTAK once Bond arrives in San Francisco.

I agree. TND is the fastest paced for me (doesn't mean I like it though).

Slowest paced? Hmm, let me think.... Here's a controversial view. GF.

Fastest paced must be QoS. No doubt about that. Longest take is just over 20s, leaving the viewer with no time to breathe.

Slowest might be Thunderball but that's the reason I enjoy it. It moves at its own leisure and never compromises, which irritates some people I guess.

FRWL and TB are probably the slowest.

For the fastest I would nominate TND.

Fastest - Tomorrow Never Dies. About the same length as the original trilogy, slightly longer, but crucially with 90's lively pacing, and without the long sombre sections of QoS.

Slowest - License To Kill. Should have been a straightforward, stripped down revenge thriller, 90 - 100 minutes tops. There's so many unnecessary strands to this film that get in the way, from Q popping up, to Ninjas randomly ambushing Bond, to a pointless love triangle.

    Fastest = QoS and TND
    Slowest = TB
